To Pool or Not to Pool…
Construction continues on the new pool at Lodi High, as it has been close to a year since they broke ground. Mr. Auerbach originally stated, “The pool is set to be ready by the last week of February or first week of March”. However the finish date has been pushed back. There have been many struggles with the pool including electrical issues, storm issues, and school currently being in session. While the actual construction of the pool will be done in April, the pool will not be usable until summer due to electrical problems caused by all the construction happening on campus.
Mr. Auerbach stated, “It’s tough having construction going on during classes.” Concentration has been hard for students during the school day, however if construction stopped during class, it would take another year for the pool to be finished. P.E. students also had to struggle through the heat wave trying to stay cool while not having a pool. However, when the swimming unit comes back, the school will need lifeguards that have already graduated from high school and pay will be $19 an hour for any lifeguards in need of work.
The new pool will allow the Water Polo team to finally have home games, as the old pool was not big enough to host. Swimmer Wyatt Reynolds said “I am very excited to swim in the new pool.” Many of the Water Polo players and swimmers are excited to have a brand new pool to compete. The quality of this pool will also be better than the old pool as players had to deal with leaks, cracks, and the water heater not consistently working. Roman Gutierrez, Varsity Water Polo player, said he was excited to see how the new pool turns out and hopes to swim in it during his senior season.
