The Lodi High AP art class includes three programs: Drawing, 2D, & 3D portfolios. Students in this class spend time honing their skills and creating a portfolio that will be submitted to the College Board. There are 9 students enrolled in the course this year, which creates a calm environment for students to brainstorm, work, and learn.
The course includes not only creating art but also talking about it. At the end of each project, the class goes through each of the student’s pieces and discusses what they think, what was done well, and what the artist can improve upon. This allows each student to grow artistically and add to their portfolio throughout the year. I find that this type of environment fosters learning and improvement.
So far this year there have been several projects students have worked on: Sentimental Portrait, The Encounter two free choice projects, Evolution, Foreshortening and Fabric Folds. Each student has a broad theme they stick to. As a student in this class, I can say that it is a great in-class environment and a class I look forward to every day. As a class, we practice with new materials to learn more. An example of this is when the class participated in inktober, which is a month-long challenge where artists must use different types of ink to create. For students who enjoy art, AP Art is a class I recommend you look into.
